XML tab
If you have customized device configuration information, enter its XML in the Data text box to make that information available to devices.
For example, both the 4500 and InTouch devices allow managers to override break restrictions when the employee's Punch Interpretation Rule has the Enforce Breaks and Allow Overrides options enabled. To allow managers to override break restrictions in employee punch interpretation rules enter the following XML configuration in the Data field of the XML tab in the General Settings template:
<set > <Configuration> <GlobalPunch> <Rules obeyAllowOverride="y"/> </GlobalPunch> </Configuration> </set>
If an employee attempts to start a break earlier or later than their scheduled break, and their break restriction settings allow their manager to provide an override, the device uses the override to start the break. It uses the length of the scheduled break start time that is closest to the time of the punch. The device enforces the break restrictions for an employee's in-punch from break based on that scheduled break's duration, the start time of the punch, and the late end break margin that is specified in the employee's Punch Interpretation Rule.
For example, suppose an employee's Punch Interpretation Rule has the following settings:
Allow Overrides = Yes
Enforce Breaks = Yes
Early Start Break Margin = 10 Min
Late Start Break Margin = 10 Min
Late End Break Margin = 5 Min
After the employee’s Punch Interpretation Rule is configured:
- The XML configuration setting to enable break overrides is sent to the device.
- The employee is granted a restriction credit by their manager.
- The employee has breaks scheduled from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM, and 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
- The employee is directed by their manager to punch out to start their first break of the day later than scheduled (10:30 AM).
- The device applies the restriction credit and accepts the punch.
- When the punch is closer to the first scheduled break time start than the second break start time, the device uses the scheduled length of the first break (30 minutes) to determine the expected end time of the break. In this case, the employee must punch back in from break between 11:00 AM and 11:05 AM (unless their manager grants a second restriction override).
- Break overrides are only allowed if at least one break is scheduled for the shift the employee is currently working. If no break is scheduled for the current shift, all punches after the start of the shift will be interpreted by the device as attempts to punch out to end the current shift, and not to take an unscheduled break.
Logo tab
The Logo tab specifies a file to be used for the logo on the InTouch. To use a logo file that is not provided with Universal Device Manager, use
to load your logo file into the database. Then, specify the logo on the Logo tab of the General Settings template.Contact Assistance tab
Use the assistance contact list editor to enter names and numbers that InTouch device users can use to call for assistance at the device.
To set up the Call for Assistance feature, you must configure the following components:

to delete a contact.
- When you are done adding contacts, select one to be the default contact using the radio button.
About Screen Savers
The Screen Saver feature allows you to enter a screen saver URL and a configurable wait time for when the screen saver appears on the device. If you are using an HTML page for the URL, ensure that the HTML page does not contain the following:
- Requirement for a plugin.
- Heavy use of JavaScript
- Content from Web servers that are not in the trusted server list.
- Streaming video
Before you enter the screen saver URL, perform these steps:
Place the file that you will be using for the screen saver in the following directories:
- For IIS: C:\inetpub\wwwroot
-
For Apache: server_name\ ukg\apache\htdocs
- To test the URL of the file, copy and paste the location URL in a browser window.
(Optional, for IIS web servers only) Create secure and non-secure ports in IIS:
- From the Windows
Start menu, select
Run, enter
inetmgr
in the Open field and click OK. - Press + in the left pane until Default Web Site appears.
- Select Default Web Site.
- While Default Web Site is still selected, select Edit Site > Bindings from the Actions column.
-
From within the Site Bindings window, click tap Add and select the type of port that you want to create: non-SSL or SSL.
For http (non-SSL), enter the appropriate information in the following fields, for example:
Type:
http
IP Addresses:
All Unassigned
Port: For example, 90. This can be any port number that is not currently in use for communication. Do no use port 80.
Hostname: no information required
Click OK.
For https (SSL), enter the appropriate information in the following fields, for example:
Type:
https
IP Addresses:

Hostname: option not available.
SSL Cert: Select the SSL certificate assigned to the system.
Click OK.
Exit from inetmgr.
Note: Add the port number from IIS to the screen saver URL in General Device Settings.- From the Windows
Start menu, select
Run, enter
Navigate to the appropriate general device setting and enter the URL for the image file in the following formats:
- For Apache:
http://
server_name or IP_address/filename. - For IIS using SSL:
https
://
server_name:ssl_port_number/filename - For IIS using non-SSL:
http
: server_name:non-SSL_port_number/filename
- For Apache:
- If you are using an IP address in the URL, enable DNS at the device to allow the device to locate the URL for the file. See the user’s guide for the device for more information about enabling DNS.
Download the configuration profile with the appropriate general device setting to the device.
- If your screen saver URL begins with https, and the site where the screen saver is located does not have a "Trusted Certificate" (from a trusted issuer), InTouch will prompt with a pop-up to accept the certificate during the time of screen saver appearance. Select Remember me and click tap OK.
