Configure templates. You can configure them in any order, although a typical sequence may entail:

  • Gate schedules, bell schedules, proximity reader format, and generic badge formats, if applicable.
  • Device language settings, if applicable (InTouch only).
  • Device work rule definitions and assignments.
  • Application configuration settings.
  • Smart View transactions.
  • Transaction settings and soft key schedules.
  • Default transaction settings.
  • Soft key settings.
  • Card and reader settings.
  • General device settings.
  • Device communication settings.
  • Device configuration profile. (Update if you have used a preliminary setup to communicate with devices using the device-initiated protocol.)

Setup example for 4500 devices

The Ever Green Manufacturing Company is a small company with 350 employees. It plans to use the Universal Device Manager with five devices that are configured as follows:

  • 4500 devices are loaded with firmware version 3.0. They communicate using the device-initiated protocol and the default communication settings.
  • All devices communicate with a single web server and instance.
  • All devices use English and have home employees with schedules assigned.
  • Thirty of the employees can punch at any device (employee set 1); the rest are limited to three devices (employee set 2).
  • Employees use standard bar code badges. Badge swipes are at local proximity readers and are read as automatic punches.
  • Home employees view time cards and schedules and request time off ( Smart View transactions) using soft keys.
  • One device has a remote gate entry device with gate schedules for home employees.
  • One device has a bell that is set to indicate the start and stop of shifts.
  • Labor Transfers are preset with the ability to override the setting.

Add devices to the Universal Device Manager

Configuration > Device > New > Device

You must know the IP address or host name for each device.

Assign a device configuration profile to each device

  1. Configuration > Device
  2. Select device or devices.
  3. Action > Apply Profile

You must have a device configuration profile and know the IP address or host name for each device.

Assign devices to device groups

  1. Dashboard
  2. Select device or devices
  3. Action > Assign Groups

Create two device groups for two sets of employees.

Establishes the home employees for each device.

Setup example for InTouch

The Box Manufacturing Company is a small company with 350 employees. It plans to install Device Manager with five devices that are configured as follows:

  • InTouch devices are loaded with firmware version 1.0. They communicate using the device-initiated protocol and the default communication settings.
  • All devices communicate with a single web server and instance.
  • All devices use English, Spanish and Simple Chinese.
  • Soft keys are configured to appear in three languages depending on employees’ language selections at the device. The soft keys background colors are red.
  • All devices have home employees with schedules assigned to two of the devices.
  • Thirty of the employees can punch at any device (employee set 1); the rest are limited to three devices (employee set 2).
  • Employees use standard bar code badges. Badge swipes are at local proximity readers and are read as automatic punches.
  • Home employees view time cards and schedules and request time off ( Smart View transactions) using soft keys.
  • One device has a bell that is set to indicate the start and stop of shifts.
  • All devices have a company logo and theme assigned to them by the company.
  • All devices have a screen saver with an URL that points to a .JPG file supplied by the company.
  • All devices are configured for the screen to dim after five minutes.
  • Labor Transfers are preset with the ability to override the setting.
  • All devices have a list of employees that can be contacted for assistance at the device
  • Two devices include an open app.
