Communications

When users log in to UKG Pro Workforce Management, they access the UKG Talk communications and collaboration platform from the Communications tile on the Home page/screen or the Feed Talk Feed shortcut on the Home page shortcut. Talk allows your company to communicate with employees, organized in one or more groups, through the activity feed, direct messages, assigned tasks, group posts, and interactive apps, events, and other content.

To manage and monitor Talk activities, users, groups, and content, Talk administrators log in to the Talk Administrator Dashboard, a standalone, browser-based application. To work with the Talk Admin Dashboard, see Talk Administrator Dashboard. For general Talk information and frequently asked questions, see Welcome to Communications with UKG Talk.

Prerequisites

Before users can access Talk, these prerequisites must be completed.

Work closely with your Service Representative to configure and implement the Talk integration.

  • Assign the employee profile to the Home Page. See Home page Management.
  • Assign the Communications license to Talk users. See Assign Licenses to people.
  • Ensure all Talk users are assigned a UKG Pro Workforce Management user role, either Employee or Manager. See Assign roles to people.
  • Assign the Communications tile to the user’s Display Profile. See Display Profiles.
  • Assign the proper number of seats for the Communications entitlement. See Entitlement Summary.
  • Configure the Talk integration:
    • Configure the Talk Boomi iPack (CommunicationsExport_v1) for syncing users in UKG Pro Workforce Management.
    • Configure the Talk admin roles in the CommunicationsExport_v1_RoleMappingCRT cross reference table (CRT).
    • Configure the Talk attribute mapping in the CommunicationsExport_v1_AttributeMappingCRT.
  • Enable the following feature switches as needed. They are off by default. Go to Administration > Application Setup > System Configuration > Feature Switch.

    • Talk Chat and Activity. Displays the Talk chat and feed navigation icons on the Home screen/page of UKG Pro Workforce Management.

    • Talk Pinned Posts. Displays the What's Happening interactive carousel on the Home screen/page of UKG Pro Workforce Management. The carousel shows the five most recent pinned posts. When there are fewer than five pinned posts, recent user posts are display.

  • Configure synchronization intervals.

Note: For additional help with Talk integration and configuration, contact your UKG Representative.

More about synchronization intervals

When Talk is implemented, an initial synchronization between Talk and the parent product is run. This initial sync imports the latest people information into Talk. Thereafter, a daily sync runs and only the people information that has changed since the last synchronization (the interval), including additions and deletions, is synchronized.

In general, when setting the sync intervals, keep in mind that synchronization performance is based on the total number of Talk users plus the number of people records changed during the interval. The more changes there are, the longer the sync takes. Specific times also depend on your system and network configurations.

It is recommended that the sync job runs once every 24 hours. Consult with your Service Representative to decide the right sync interval for your organization.
