Viewing information on a map

The app provides employees and managers the ability to see punch and Known Place data on graphical maps.

A map on the Timecard screens provides both employees and managers with a visual representation of the locations of past punches and Known Places. A map on the punch screen shows employees their current location and how that location relates to relevant punch areas (“Known Places”).

MANAGERS can see the punches for their employees’ Timecards on a map, providing a quick reference to where the employees are punching. Managers can look at a single employee’s timecard or they can look at a group of employees through the Employee Summary. Once employees are selected, the manager chooses View Map to see the locations of the punches. Managers can refine the display to only include certain punch types or punches that only meet certain criteria (such as just punches with exceptions).

EMPLOYEES can view maps on their Timecard and Punch screens.

  • On the Timecard screen, employees can see where their past punches occurred by choosing the View Map option. Known Places will also display on the map. Employees can refine the display to only include certain punch types or punches that only meet certain criteria (such as just punches with exceptions).

  • On the Punch screen, employees can tap Where can I punch? to see their current location and its relation to relevant Known Places before they attempt a punch. This is helpful for “geofenced” employees, whose punches outside of a Known Place are notated or restricted completely. Note that a “relevant” Known Place is a Known Place that contains the employee’s Primary Job or the jobs used in any of the employee’s most-recently-used transfers.

Note: A known place must have GPS coordinates to appear on the map. It is not necessary for the known place to use GPS validation; it only must have coordinates. For example, if a known place with only WiFi validation has GPS coordinates, it can appear on the map. NOTE ALSO: The Global Positioning System (GPS) used in China, Baidu, differs from the GPS system used outside of China. The Baidu map service supports the GCJ-02 system, while the rest of the world is based on the WGS-84 system. The two systems are not compatible. The UKG Pro mobile app processes coordinates using the WGS-84 system. Location-based features such as maps, Known Places, and Geofencing will not be accurate in China.

Viewing groups of punches/Known Places on the maps

When an area on a map contains multiple punches/known places, the map indicates this with a number on the display.

For example, on the punch map, a “5” on the pin indicates that there are 5 punches (with location information) in this area. You can sometimes zoom in to see to the details in the group. The Show List option is useful in this case of “overlapping” punches/Known Places.

Note: If the coordinates of “grouped” items are too close together, you will not be able to separate them no matter how much you zoom in. If the overlapping is occurring for Known Places, you can change the coordinates of the Known Places so they are farther apart.

Punches and Known Places are grouped separately, and Known Places are always displayed behind punches.
