Copying data between software versions

Refer to the following information about copying data between software versions.

Copying between the same software versions (for example, version 7 to version 7, version 7 to version 8, or version 8 to version 8) continues to transfer successfully. If you modify setup items, they will transfer successfully as well.

When copying between version 8 and version 7, the following treatment occurs:

  • If you attempt to transfer a new setup item that is not supported in the target tenant (for example, a new setup item that supports a new feature), that setup item will not transfer and an error will be logged in the SDM Publish History. This occurs because a configuration for a feature that does not exist in the target tenant cannot be promoted.
  • If you attempt to transfer an old setup item that has one or more new attributes (for example, a new radio button in an overtime rule), that setup item will transfer, but without the new attributes. This occurs because the parts of the configuration that are not supported in the target tenant cannot be promoted.
  • If you attempt to transfer an old setup item that uses new options or selections within previously existing attributes (for example, a newly-added column for a Dataview), that setup item will not transfer and an error will be logged in the SDM Publish History. This occurs because a configuration that refers to options that do not exist in the target tenant cannot be promoted.
