Talk Broadcast Chats

Broadcast chats allow the efficient, controlled distribution of Talk information by managers and supervisors.

Broadcasts are created as a single chat intended for multiple people at once. But unlike group chats where all recipients and their responses are included in one chat thread, broadcast messages are received as 1:1 chats between the broadcast creator and each recipient.

Broadcasts enable supervisors to communicate consistently at scale with structured team interactions while preserving the privacy of individual 1:1 direct responses. Creators can send broadcasts about organization updates, alerts, instructions, recognitions, and so on.

Benefits

  • Broadcasts allow the creator to send messages in bulk without exposing the list of recipients or the name of the broadcast. Recipients do not see each others' names or messages, or that the message was sent as a broadcast.
  • Replies to a broadcast are visible to the creator in the 1:1 chat windows of each recipient.
  • Each broadcast created has a unique name and is saved for reuse in the creator’s chat conversation list.
  • Broadcast creators can see a list of recipients who have opened and viewed each broadcast message. This helps track communication effectiveness.
Note: Broadcast Chat is controlled with Talk Profiles, enabled by Talk admins in the Talk Admin Dashboard.

How do supervisors create broadcasts?

You create one broadcast at a time, selecting the Talk users you want to receive the broadcast.

Note the following:

  • Broadcast chats can be sent in bulk to a maximum of 50 recipients
  • Each recipient gets a push notification alerting that they have a new message
  • Your profile assigned by the Talk admin must include Create Broadcast chat permissions
Note: This procedure describes the steps for working in Talk mobile, but you can create broadcasts in Talk for web/desktop as well.
  1. Open the Talk Chat panel.
  2. Select Start New Broadcast. If this option is not available, contact your Talk admin to get access.
  3. Enter a unique Broadcast Name and a short Description. These fields are required.
  4. Select Create. The broadcast is created and the Add users view opens.
  5. Select the names of the people you want to receive your broadcast message, up to a maximum of 50. You can add and remove members at any time.
Note: You can add only members with whom you have permission to initiate 1:1 chats.
  6. Select Add to Group. The My Chats panel displays the new broadcast chat at the top of the list.
  7. Open the broadcast to write and send your message. Note the following:
    • Only the creator sees the names of the recipients, the name of the broadcast chat, and its description.

    • In the broadcast chat, only your messages show. If you already have a 1:1 chat going with a broadcast chat member, your broadcast chat message will show as the latest message in that 1:1 thread. If you do not yet have an active 1:1 chat with a broadcast chat member, a new 1:1 chat will be started between you.

    • At any time, you can edit the broadcast name and description, add and remove members, and delete the broadcast.

How do supervisors manage the broadcasts they create?

Supervisors can edit and delete broadcasts.

You can edit the name and description, add and remove members, and delete the broadcast if it is no longer needed. You can also track the names of recipients who opened and viewed a message or deleted individual messages.

Note the following:

  • Broadcasts that are not deleted remain in your Chat conversation panel for reuse.
  • When you delete a broadcast, messages that are part of the broadcast remain read-only in the 1:1 chats.
  1. Open the Chat panel. All your 1:1 chats are listed along with any broadcasts you created. All broadcast chats show the broadcast icon (speaker icon used for broadcast chats) .
  2. Search for the broadcast you want to manage, select the more menu (more menu icon with three vertical dots ), and select the following as needed:
    • Manage members. Remove or add members to the existing broadcast. New members will only see messages sent after they are added to the broadcast. Removed members will see the existing broadcast chat messages as read-only in their 1:1 chat windows.

    • Broadcast settings. Update the name and description.

    • Delete broadcast. Delete unneeded broadcasts. When you delete a broadcast, the broadcast messages between the creator and receivers remain in their respective 1:1 chat windows. These are read-only.

  3. To manage individual messages, open the broadcast chat window, select the more menu (more menu icon with three vertical dots ) for your message, and select the following as needed:
    • Delete. The message is removed from the chat.

    • Viewed by. The names of any members who have opened and viewed the message display. Only the creator sees this list.
