Geofence set-up and usage

A geofence is a geographic area that is defined as a "known place" in the system. The geography of a known place can be a GPS latitude/longitude combination, a WiFi Network or both. Known places are associated with jobs in the business structure. A mobile device can detect its location when an employee clocks in and out. Based on the system set-up, a clocking can be notated or declined based on whether the employee is inside a known place when attempting to clock.

Geofencing uses the known place parameters (GPS, WiFi Networks, WiFi Access Points) to determine whether an employee is in the proper place when attempting to clock.

Tracking geofence set-up (Audit Report)

Any changes to the Known Places, WiFi Networks and WiFi Access Points configurations can be tracked with the Audit Report for System Configuration.

Tracking geofence clockings (Dataviews)

You can use a dataview A configurable tool for analysing data and taking actions on a group of employees or an organisation. to view location details for geofenced clockings. A "Timecard Transactions" dataview can be configured to capture the following information for both clocking on and clocking off:

  • Known Place
  • Location detection method used for the clocking (GPS or WiFi).
  • GPS coordinates (latitude/longitude) – The GPS coordinates will appear here regardless of the Known Place or location detection method used for the clocking. If the GPS coordinates were not detectable from the device when the clocking occurred, these cells will be blank in the dataview.
  • WiFi Network – If location detection method used for the clocking is WiFi.
  • WiFi Access Point – If location detection method used for the clocking is WiFi.
